Genesis 43:1-34 The Second Journey of Egypt

Genesis 43:1-34 The Second Journey of Egypt

Joseph’s family ate all of the grain and then Jacob told them to go back and buy a little more food.  Judah reminded his father that the man (Joseph) told them not to come back without Benjamin. Judah said he would not go back without his younger brother. Israel (Jacob) asked why did you tell him you had a younger brother.  The brothers said that they were just answering his questions.  They did not think they would ask him to bring their younger brother. Jacob said to his father to let him take his brother so that they may save the rest of the family.  Judah would keep him safe and Jacob could keep him personally responsible.

Jacob told him to take a gift to Joseph of the best products of the land.  They were to take balm, honey, spices, myrrh, pistachios and almonds.  He also told them to take double the amount of silver to  pay for what was put back in their sacks.  Also they were to take their brother.  They took all that their father told them to and hurried back to Egypt, back to Joseph.

When Joseph saw that they had Benjamin with them his said to have them taken to his house and to prepare a big meal for them.  Joseph brothers were afraid for they did not understand what was happening.  They thought that they were in trouble for not paying for the first batch of wheat.  They were afraid that he would make them his slaves.  So they told Joseph everything that had happened to them as far as the grain.  They also told him that they brought back double the amount of silver.

Joseph brought Simon back to them.  They prepare their gift for Joseph and presented it to him.  Joseph inquiry about their father.  Was he well?  Is he still alive?  The brother said yes he is well and alive.  When Joseph saw his brother Benjamin he was so moved he had to leave the room.  He went to his room and wept.  He clean his face and returned to his brothers. They ate their feast.
